Cutting-Edge DNA: New Methods, Developments, and Techniques

Location: Lake Nona
Date: Sat, May 2
Time: 10:45 AM - 12:00 PM

This session will focus on recent advancements, challenges, and debates surrounding "low level" DNA testing -- that is, the detection and analysis of trace amounts of human DNA in forensic casework.  Panelists will explain what scientists mean when they talk about "touch DNA," "low copy," and/or "low level" samples; share their recommendations for how to extract small quantities of DNA from forensic evidence; and discuss DNA testing on spent shell casings as one such example. Attendees who already have working knowledge of forensic DNA methods will benefit most from this session.
