Insight on Success Post Exoneration

Location: Lake Eola B
Date: Fri, May 1
Time: 10:00 AM - 11:15 AM

Two exonerees-- Jarrett Adams, a third year law student who has not been compensated, and Jeff Deskovic, M.A., who has been compensated-- will discuss key steps each took in order to get to where they are right now in life. Practical yet essential advise will be discussed, including: identifying life goals, pursuing further education, making sacrifices for the bigger picture, mental health treatment, surrounding ones self with positive friends, exoneree support, learning technology, not rushing into relationships, familiarizing oneself with new culture and trends, saying no, rebuilding relationships with immediate and extended family, safeguarding one's compensation, dealing with the press, advocacy work, and managing the psychological and emotional after-effects of wrongful imprisonment. Some particular attention will be given to the first 12 months of freedom. Exonerees; anyone who either currently interacts with exonerees or anticipates interacting with exonerees in the future, such as family and friends; and innocence movement staff should attend.
